Stop punishing the homeless

Taking the homeless to jail doesn't work. We know that because jail has been our only solution for too long. A great coalition has come together in Dallas to stop the criminalization of mental illness and addiction. Homeward Bound, the Dallas County District Attorney's office, Dallas police and Parkland Hospital are joining the Dallas business community, charitable foundations and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas to launch Dallas Deflects, a groundbreaking new program that will save hundreds of thousands of tax dollars, freeing up jail space and actually treating health problems instead of punishing the people who suffer from them.
